Let’s be real, for a lot of students, rent and groceries can feel way more stressful than classes. You can have a job, stick to a budget, cut back where you can and still end the month wondering where your money went.
When money feels tight, food is often the first thing people compromise on. But that shouldn’t have to be the case.
Our Student Nutritional Access Program (SNAP) has one mission: to support your nutrition, health and wellness needs, and help you cultivate a healthy relationship with food.
What is SNAP?
SNAP includes the two following programs: the Affordable Produce Program and the Emergency Pantry Program. Both programs are designed to support any Conestoga College student who is experiencing food insecurity or may be at risk of experiencing it.
Whether you’re running short on cash this month, facing unexpected expenses, or simply trying to stretch your budget, SNAP is here for you.
1. Affordable Produce Program
Through the Affordable Produce program, you can access nutrient dense, locally sourced produce throughout the semester.
The best part? Produce bags are only $5 and are available at monthly markets across the Doon, Cambridge, Reuter, and Waterloo campuses.
2. Emergency Pantry Program
The Emergency Pantry Program provides 3-5 days’ worth of food and/or personal hygiene items, offering temporary relief during challenging times. If you’re unable to afford groceries or hygiene products, simply submit a request form. Once your pickup is scheduled, you can collect your items at your local campus.
Why is Proper Nutrition Important?
When your body and brain get consistent, nourishing food, it makes a real difference in your mood, energy levels, and ability to focus. Food doesn’t just provide nutrients it gives you the energy you need to get through long days, stay engaged in class, and keep up with assignments. Without consistent access to food, it becomes much harder to feel your best and success academically.
At the end of the day, we just want you to feel good, do your best, and know that support is always available. The SNAP program is here to help you make the most of your college experience because taking care of yourself should never be out of reach.
