Student Funding Statement

Over the last two weeks, CSI has been monitoring provincial announcements regarding changes to post-secondary funding and the impacts they will have to students.

Here’s what we know:

  • Domestic tuition has been unfrozen, allowing institutions to increase by 2% per year for the next three years.
  • There will be an additional $6.4 billion of funding provided to the sector over the next four years, bringing annual funding to $7 billion.
  • OSAP is set to be restructured, forcing students to accept a funding split of 25% as grants and 75% as loans.
  • This change decreases grant funding by 60%,meaning more students will accumulate debt throughout their studies.

Here’s what we say:

The changes to the OSAP funding model are an unacceptable loss to student financial security in a time of unprecedented financial challenges. They must be reversed.

While we acknowledge the monumental investment the provincial government is making towards education, the unspoken fact is that students will be the ones paying this bill with their own debt. No domestic student will be left unaffected, with those already experiencing financial challenges or those coming from marginalized groups being the first to feel them this September.

Here’s what we’re doing:

  • Our provincial advocacy group, Ontario Student Voices (OSV), is already working on campaign materials, including a letter writing campaign and paper petition, that will allow you to make your voice heard. Once more resources are available, we will be working with them on a comprehensive rollout.
  • We’ve created a student feedback form to ensure we are capturing up-to-date sentiments from you and your fellow Condors. We encourage you to reach out directly to make your voice heard.
  • Students who wish to make their voice heard through protest are encouraged to attend the following events hosted by CFS.
  • Hands Off Our Education: March 4th 2026 - 12:30 PM @ Queens Park
  • We are working behind the scenes with our fellow institutions and additional provincial advocacy groups to find more opportunities to make your voice heard through protest or letter writing. As these opportunities become available, we will be resharing them through CSI’s Instagram account.
