Getting around campus and the city has never been easier! Whether you’re a daily commuter or just popping by occasionally, your student card and U-Pass make every trip simple and affordable.
The U-Pass is automatically included in your tuition if you are enrolled in a full-time, in-person program, though eligibility depends on your campus and region. With unlimited rides on all local transit, you can explore, study, and connect across the region without paying for each trip.
U-Pass Programs
The official U-Pass programs are the Guelph Transit U-Pass Program and the Grand River Transit (GRT) U-Pass Program, available for campuses within the Waterloo Region. If you’re not eligible for a term (e.g., you’re on a break term, studying part-time or online), you might have the option to opt into the program. Check out the program pages for more information!
For the remaining campuses, there are alternative transit options such as the Milton Conestoga College Term Pass, Brantford Transit Pass, Stratford Transit, and Community Transit Options. You can visit our Transportation page to learn more!
How does the U-Pass work?
You’ll need to tap your ONECard whether you’re hopping on a bus in Guelph or taking a bus or the ION trains in Waterloo. The only difference is where you tap your card.
- If you’re hopping on a bus, you can tap your ONECard on the farebox when you board.
- If you’re taking the ION in Waterloo, you'll tap it on the platform card reader before you board the train.
It can take up to 2 business days for your pass to be loaded if you have a brand-new student card. If you’re a new student, make sure to pick up your card as soon as possible so you're all set!
Resources to Find Your Route
- Check out the GRT or Guelph Transit websites for schedules and maps, service alerts and detours, and more!
- GRT also has a Text Your Stop Feature. Just text the four-digit stop number (look for it in the bottom right corner of the bus stop sign) to 57555, and you’ll get the next three bus times.
Quick tip: get to your stop about five minutes early! Sometimes buses show up a minute early or a minute late, so it’s best to be ready.
